Unfortunately, Chaffee County Colorado does not offer many services for persons who are struggling with being unhoused. The Chaffee Housing Initiative provides some individuals for short term needs including emergency shelter and manages a warming shelter in the winter.

For families with children, please contact the CHA office or Department of Human Services.

For people who are seeking more intensive support to move out of homelessness, we encourage you to consider Canon City or the Front Range where there are many more supportive resources. Public Health, CHI, and CHA are all willing to discuss options with you.

We know Chaffee County is a very expensive place to live and how challenging it can be, especially for households working in lower-wage jobs. There are five apartment complexes in Chaffee County that are deeply affordable but almost always have a wait list. We can help you with the application process, discuss alternatives while on a wait list, and/or help identify support for other needs that may help with the high cost of living (energy and food).

Rental Assistance

• There are very limited resources for rental assistance in Chaffee County. We encourage you to check available resources at Chaffee Resources or to contact CHA directly. 

If you have fallen behind on your rent, the best thing to do is seek help sooner rather than later. If you have received an eviction notice, you may have time legally to address the problem. There may be one time temporary help available for you.
