HOUSING SPEAKER SERIES
Why a Speaker Series focused on Housing?
Community interest in affordable housing is at an all-time high as Chaffee County employees and families continue to struggle to find an afford place to live. County professionals are challenged to manage rapid growth, address policy changes necessary to intervene in the rising cost of housing, and stop the displacement of low and moderate-income residents. The Housing + Health Speaker Series was designed to increase Chaffee County’s collective understanding of land use and growth management strategies and how these strategies, when created with the community health in mind, can become a positive influence on the environmental, social and economic health of our community.
The Housing + Health Initiative was funded by Colorado’s Department of Public Health and Environment’s Office of Health Equity and is part of the Health Disparities Program. Chaffee County Office of Public Health and Environment and the Chaffee County Office of Housing focused on using this funding to address housing displacement and gentrification, increasing housing affordability and stability over time that will improve long-term health outcomes of Chaffee County residents.
